FISH
EMBLEMA

Fish mosaic for our clients' swimming pool.

Commissioned by Markham Roberts, this work is a modern recreation of a historic fish emblema, crafted from contemporary marble tesserae and set in a bronze-coloured frame. Designed to hang as artwork in a private swimming pool, it blends classical inspiration with modern materials.

Known for his versatility and refined touch, Markham tailors each project to his clients’ individual styles, creating spaces that are both sophisticated and deeply personal. The project was completed in collaboration with the UK's leading specialists from our extended network.

CRAIG
HAMILTON
CHAPEL

Gold mosaics for the Craig Hamilton’s Roman Catholic chapel at Williamstrip Park in Gloucestershire.

As part of Craig Hamilton’s Roman Catholic chapel at Williamstrip Park in Gloucestershire, we created gold mosaics for the apse and vaulted ceiling. The chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is the latest addition to Hamilton’s architectural work on the estate.

Hand-cut gold tesserae bring warmth and movement to the space, with stylised lilies, Mary’s symbol, woven into the design. The irregular surfaces reflect light subtly, enhancing the chapel’s contemplative atmosphere.

Gold leaf tesserae used in the project were produced in Venice. This exquisite material consists of a thin sheet of gold encased between two layers of transparent glass. For our work, we used the Gold G0200 variety - an ancient and historically significant type. Unlike the more commonly used gold tesserae, which are typically 4 mm thick, the G0200 is slightly thicker at 6 mm, adding both depth and durability to the finished piece.

MOSAIC
FOUNTAIN
Water feature in mosaic created for Merchant Taylors' Hall in London.

At Merchant Taylors' Hall in London, we created a bespoke fountain mosaic feature using Italian smalti glass in rich turquoise and blue tones, accented with pure gold detailing. The design is based on a fragment of an original mosaic, parts of which remain visible at the base of the structure resting on the plinth.

The same linear golden pattern was continued along the border running around the pool’s external perimeter. The original mosaic’s colour palette was also faithfully followed. However, the size of the tesserae was based on those used in a now-lost mosaic that once lined the pool — a sample of which had been preserved by the client.

The primary material used was Venetian smalti — durable, lightfast, and frost-resistant — making it particularly suitable for external applications. The uneven surface of the hand-cut tesserae reflects light through the water in varying directions, creating a dynamic and vibrant effect.

LEAF

TABLE

TOP

Detail of a delicate marble mosaic of fig leaves
Mosaic for our client in France was made in response to the architecture of their home.

For a client in France, we created a custom tabletop that reflects the Romanesque character of their family home, recently updated with contemporary designer furniture.

At the centre of the design is the fig leaf, a symbol with a rich and complex history. In classical art, it came to represent modesty and concealment, often used, centuries after a work was created, to cover nudity. But the fig leaf also speaks to identity, protection, and transformation.

The piece is made using tumbled marble tesserae in various sizes, laid out in a modern composition that still nods to traditional mosaic work. The marble itself was sourced locally, in keeping with the materials and methods long associated with the region.

CREST

A circular mosaic representing the family crest crafted in marble using a monochrome palette.

For our Portuguese client, we designed and produced a circular mosaic representing the family crest. Crafted in marble using a monochrome palette, we incorporated subtle highlights in yellow and green to contemporise the design whilst remaining faithful to tradition.

The circular form draws inspiration from the traditional shield, which would typically bear the family crest. At its centre, the skull symbolises persistence and resilience. It serves a dual purpose: to deter enemies and to act as a unique memento mori — a reminder of mortality that deepens appreciation for the everyday.

MONOCHROME
HALLWAY

Our clients' monochrome entrance hall design was handmade in marble.

The client chose a traditional fan pattern for their home in Holland Park, London. This elegant design, created from white and black marble mosaic, was especially popular in the early 20th century—a time that celebrated the return to traditional crafts and artisanal skills.

The monochrome palette not only honours that heritage but also visually widens the corridor, introducing a sense of light and airiness to the space.
